Treasure Beach, Jamaica February 24th - March 2nd, 2024
“Maybe you’ve been to Negril or Montego Bay, but the south-coast enclave of Treasure Beach remains one of Jamaica’s hidden gems, with great beaches around a main fishing village.” Caribbean Journal
Before hip design-driven boutique hotels became a thing, there was Jakes, in Treasure Beach. The hotel began its life as a restaurant, with Sally Henzell as proprietor-in-chief. A great success, tipsy guests begged Sally to build a place where they could spend the night. So she built one, and then another, and then another of her striking structures in a style that can best be described as Jimi Hendrix meets Antoni Gaudi on the beach in Jamaica. These buildings—in bursts of blue, pink and acid yellow—dot the laidback beaches and sparsely populated coast of Treasure Beach. You’ll find most of these buildings at Jakes where, together, they house a colorful community of rooms. Some have ocean views, some have garden views; some have interior seating and dining areas; many have outdoor showers. Each has its own outdoor space and private entrance. No two rooms are exactly alike, yet all have oodles of character and charm. "Jake's Treasure Beach is a Conde Nast award winning, intimate, one-of-a-kind property. A virtual love letter to Jamaica, casual-chic Jakes sports dazzling colors and sweeping architectural curves resonating with patterns and shapes of Barcelona artist Antoni Gaudi. From reception to the pool, spa to rooms, oceanfront bungalows to flower-embraced cottages, it all fuses with nature. The result is a setting that’s peaceful, colorful, creatively functional, organic, joyful and totally welcoming.” Jakes’ beach, at the heart of the property, is intimate and easy. The sand and sea are a few short steps from Dougies Bar, Driftwood Spa, hammocks and your room. Jakes’ beach was constructed to allow guests convenient access to the deep, clear turquoise of the sea. You can dive right into the waves and float all afternoon or jump right back out for a drink at the bar or relax next to the salt-water pool. Kayaks and snorkel equipment are available at the resort. Optional excursions like bicycle tour, hiking the YS Falls, and cooking classes, so you can be as active or relaxed as you like. This retreat is designed to fill your morning with a balancing blend of yoga, centering meditations and group journaling exercises. This will be a time to draw more inward into self awareness or perhaps you will feel drawn to sharing with the group. Both will be honored and respected. The afternoons are open to experience all the resort has to offer or to participate in excursions throughout the area. You will have the space to create your own retreat experience while being held in the group’s container at the beginning and end of each day.
