Yoga Practice Tips

  • Be an Early Bird
  • Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes ahead of your class so that you have time to set up and get centered on your mat. Being early will help you stay calm and centered, relieve stress, and show respect to your teacher and other students in the class.
  • Come to Yoga with an Open Heart/Open Mind
  • Yoga is not just a physical practice. It also can lead to emotional stability and teach your mind to stay calm while in less than ideal situations. Come to yoga with an open heart and open mind and let go of your expectations to reap the integral benefits of the practice.
  • Listen to your body
  • Yoga is a non-competitive activity. Please listen to your body and rest when needed. If a pose feels uncomfortable, don't hesitate to let the teacher know and come out of the pose.
  • Talk to your teacher
  • Before the class begins, let your teacher know if you have any injuries or are pregnant.
  • Part with your Cell Phone
  • Leave your cell phone in the lobby for your 60-90 minute class. It's been working hard and needs a break! So do you.
  • Dress the part
  • Wear comfortable clothing and take off shoes and socks before coming to class
  • Keep your belly happy
  • Avoid eating anything heavy before class
  • Savasana, Savasana, Savasana
  • Savasana is the single most important pose we do. In fact, the entire practice is intended to prepare us for this final pose. Please plan to stay for the entire class. If you must leave early, please tell your teacher before class, and plan to take your own Savasana (5 minutes minimum) prior to leaving the room. If Savasana is difficult for you, you probably need it the most!
