Traditional Yoga
For scheduling information on the Traditional Yoga classes, please contact Victor Roberts directly at oceavic@yahoo.com or join the open Traditional Yoga Facebook Group. Although this class typically meets on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, it runs 3 weeks on, 1 week off.
Today the breadth of techniques taught in the ancient scriptures are not found in any single school of contemporary yoga. The traditional schools, in which these techniques are preserved, are unfamiliar to many modern and western yoga practitioners. Today’s hatha yoga generally consist of practices originating from traditions less than a hundred years old. Traditional methodologies are often changed and adapted, slowing progress.
The aim of Traditional Yoga is to restore an understanding of the relationship of the different limbs of yoga and to present this knowledge in its original, whole and undiluted practical form for the benefit of all practitioners and teachers. Both hatha yoga (the science of body) as given by the Nath gurus and raja yoga ( the science of mind) as given by Patanjali.
Time permitting, each session will end with a seated meditation. Class duration is 2 hours long with meditation at the end, however students are free to leave when they need to if they are unable to stay for the full duration. In order to fully understand the practice and to honor the other participants it is strongly recommended that students are a bit early - preferably on your mat 5 minutes prior to the start time.
This class will incorporate the Namaskaras (Sun Salutations) as well as basic to advanced poses, and is suitable to a range of levels. Novice students are encouraged to join and do what they can do and the teacher will provide modifications for beginners.
The intention of the class is to create an external to internal, or gross to subtle body to mind awareness. Creating a path to a more focused meditative state. Starting the day this way will create happiness and bliss inside you and help you carry that through your day.
Mixed Level Flow
This class blends the alignment principles from Yoga Basics with the flowing aspects of a vinyasa class, building strength as well as a sense of well-being and inner stillness. This practice is joyful, therapeutic, and inspiring. This class is open for beginners and continuing students. Variations are offered to support the new student while challenges are encouraged for the more skilled as all postures are refined.

Meditate and Breathe
You've promised yourself you'll begin to live more mindfully, and now you have the opportunity to make that happen!
Meditate & Breathe classes will jump-start your path to mindfulness by giving you the tools to begin a personal meditation and yoga breathing practice.
This weekly session will teach a classical yoga breathing (pranayama) series and introduce you to various meditation styles and methods. Students immediately notice a sense of calm and centeredness which begins to permeate their lives as they develop a steady and long-term practice. You'll learn how to use the breath to refresh and invigorate you, while you quiet your mind and begin to direct your thoughts and emotions, helping you to tap into your higher purpose.
This is a seated practice (chairs are available) with lots of blankets, blocks & bolsters to make it comfortable for everyone. No prior yoga or meditation experience is needed.
On the last Sunday of each month, the class format will include Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep with awareness). This is a guided meditation that explores the various sheaths of the body: the physical body, the breath, the emotions, the intellect, intuition and connection to a higher self. Yoga Nidra is practiced in a reclining position and induces full-body relaxation and a deep meditative state of consciousness. It is a nurturing practice for anyone suffering from chronic pain, illness, grief and stress.

Satsang
We offer a donation-based Satsang the last Friday each month, unless otherwise noted on our website due to a holiday or other conflict. Satsang belongs to the branch of Yoga known as Bhakti or Devotional Yoga and is literally translated as "Being in the company of Truth". This event will include a mix of Yogic breathing, chanting, and meditation. You will leave feeling uplifted and light hearted.
Unless otherwise noted, our Satsang also includes complimentary Kid's Yoga for ages 4+ in studio B. Kids and babies under the age of 4 are also welcome, but must be supervised by an adult.
No charge; Donations accepted
As always... bring the family - we will offer a kid's movie in Studio B!
Satsang is about remembrance
It's as if you forgot you were this openness and thought that you were something. Humans have spun endless mythologies of how we forgot, but it doesn't really matter how.
The heart of satsang is not to change and alter yourself, but to remember what you are. Truth is about just remembering, recognizing, or realizing your true nature.
Do you know the experience of forgetting something even though it was right there in your mind a moment ago? The mind may struggle to remember, but this just makes it more difficult.
What finally helps? You relax a little bit. You forget that you're trying to remember, and you relax. "Oh yes, that's it!" The answer comes out of nowhere.
Self-realization is just like that -- just now. It happens in the willingness to relax and not know.
